AI can't do it all: Why you still need a SEO Expert

From product descriptions to customer chatbots, AI is everywhere right now. Some sources even suggest that it can replace the most difficult tasks of a digital marketing expert, especially a SEO.

As a SEO professional, you can often come across sensational headlines claiming that “SEO is dead!” in light of the latest Google updates or technology trends, the most recent one being AI.  Below, we outline the most compelling reasons for integrating a SEO strategy for your business.

1) AI is Impressive, but it’s not Magic

AI is evolving fast, we can still remember its first step in mainstream with the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, and it rapidly reached its fifth version with GPT-5 launched last month.

Every platform is adding AI tools and functionalities to help marketers and business owners with many tasks, from suggesting topic ideas for blog articles to generating meta data and even product pictures.

All this is very useful, but AI cannot run your website, it lacks the strategic thinking required to tackle various obstacles.

It can’t replace the creativity and industry expertise that are required for senior SEO roles, which can significantly transform your online business and drive growth.

2) Your Website gives you Visibility

AI is not selling products nor services, if someone is looking to buy a t-shirt, he doesn’t need a chatbot to explain how to make one. What they want is a link to a website with several t-shirt designs to pick the one they like.

As long as people enter the keywords to search for something, SEO will work in the background to grab their attention and drive them straight to the mos relevant websites.

3) Google said it: SEO isn’t going anywhere

This summer, John Mueller, Google’s search advocate, coordinating Google Search Relations efforts, discussed the question of whether AI will replace the need for SEO.

Mueller affirmed that SEO will still be needed as long as websites are needed because search engines and chatbots need the information they contain. He gave the examples of local businesses and e-commerce sites that still need to be found, regardless of whether that’s through an AI chatbot or search engines.

Also, Google’s Search advertising accounted for 56% of its total revenue in 2024, so you can be sure they’ll make sure to keep its cash cow from disappearing.

4) SEO is still a Job for Real People

Yes, AI can generate a nice list of keywords for you, an attractive title tag, and some ideas for your blog articles, but that’s still very basic.

SEO has many more nuances and depth, from understanding your audience, creating unique content tailored to their questions, fixing the many technical issues a website might encounter, and building a strategy that shows your website to the right individuals.

5) What should businesses do now?

If you’ve been waiting to integrate SEO to your sales and marketing strategy because you were afraid that AI might take over,, don’t wait any longer.

AI is becoming a part of the SEO toolkit, but AI tools and search engines still rely on your website to know what you offer, who you are, and why they should pick your services/products.

6) SEO is seen as the most effective Digital Marketing Channel

It’s only the beginning for AI in marketing, but it’s not a replacement for SEO, even Google agrees.

So if you’re serious about standing out and converting clicks into customers, make sure your SEO strategy is a priority in your Digital Marketing Strategy.
